The UK government are offering to grant companies across Newcastle, Gateshead and North Tyneside funding of up to £3000 in aid to boost their broadband and computing capabilities.

Biosignatures received funding from Go Digital Newcastle for new computers to speed up their research work which will help them to develop blood tests to save cancer patients from undergoing irrelevant biopsies.

Cllr Michael Johnson, Newcastle City Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Skills, Business and Enterprise, said: “I’d encourage as many Newcastle businesses as possible to take a look at the business support programme and find out how it can help them – it’s free, and it can provide help in many ways.”

The Go Digital Newcastle programme offers small and medium businesses, charities and social enterprises free vouchers worth up to £3,000 which enables them to be connected to superfast business broadband by a supplier of their choice.

The Government’s Broadband Connection Vouchers scheme is active in 22 cities around the country and is registered with over 500 suppliers. The government has committed £150 million for the SuperConnected Cities programme which is managed by Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK).
